Gender Based Violence(GBV) Awareness Forum
Twende Pamoja successfully conducted a Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Awareness Forum at Ndhiwa Hospital Comprehensive School grounds, bringing together approximately 300 participants, including pupils, teachers, parents, youth, and community members. The forum provided a safe and inclusive platform for learning, dialogue, and collective action to prevent gender-based violence and promote safer communities.
The awareness forum featured educational sessions facilitated by experienced resource persons, mentorship discussions tailored to different groups, and interactive forums where participants examined real-life situations and explored practical, community-led solutions to GBV.
To promote unity and teamwork, the event concluded with a friendly netball match, reinforcing the message
that preventing violence is asharedresponsibility.
Through the forum, participants gained a deeper understanding of gender equality, legal rights, and the importance of reporting and preventing Gender Based Violence. Many participants expressed increased confidence in recognizing and responding to GBV within their homes, schools, and communities. The event also encouraged open conversations around sensitive issues, helping to reduce stigma and strengthen community commitment to protecting children and vulnerable groups.
One participant, Darlin Precious from Ndhiwa Hospital Primary School, shared how the mentorship sessions transformed her outlook. She explained that although she had previously been hesitant to speak about challenges affecting girls, the discussions gave her the confidence to stand up for herself and support others facing similar situations.
“I now feel empowered to speak up for myself and encourage my friends to do the same. I will not remain silent when I or others experience unfair treatment,” she said.
This forum reflects Twende Pamoja’s ongoing commitment to empowering children, young people, and communities with the knowledge and confidence needed to prevent Gender Based Violence and build safer environments where everyone can thrive.
